I have 2009 Jetta TDI. My glowplug and check-engine light came on. I checked the code with my dongle and Torque app. The code is P0544, "exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit, bank 1". Further research online shows it's bank 1, sensor 1. The problem is my Bentley manual doesn't show a sensor #1. It shows sensor #4 and two sensors labeled #2.

There are 2 basic types of modern clean diesel exhaust systems on TDI. Those that use Adblue (2009+ VW Touareg TDI and Audi Q7 TDI) and those without (2006-2008 Touareg TDI and all other 2009+ TDI, some Euro engines). The larger and heavier cars with V6 engines need Adblue to meet 50 state emissions.
